Group study has been shown to be an effective method for students to become successful learners, but while most students have been accustomed to this traditional way of learning, others prefer to study alone at their own pace. The two approaches each have distinct advantages, and the choice is more a matter of personal preference. (导入话题，引出下文。)
Group study is strongly advocated by some because it requires the sharing of ideas amongst group members. During group study, students listen to what their fellow students say and debate with them if there is a disagreement. Naturally, their communication skills and critical thinking abilities are greatly enhanced. Moreover, peer pressure can be a positive force which can motivate and challenge the students to do their best. However, studying alone also offers some unique benefits to the students. First of all, the individual learner is kept away from the distracting conversation or unnecessary interruptions in a classroom with many students. Then they can concentrate well and make more efficient use of their time. Also, the individual learner can pace his or her own learning and decide for himself/herself when to start or when to stop. Studying alone certainly has its advantages. Being by yourself in your room allows you to move at your own pace and to enjoy the peace and quiet. For me, however, studying with a group of people is definitely my preference. The benefits of group study all revolve around the ability for students to talk with one another about course material. One individual can ask a question, and another can answer it. When a cleaner talks out loud about what he or she has read in textbook or heard in a lecture, the learner is able to reinforce the new ideas. In a similar vein, I like the fact that group study provides each group member with new perspectives on the course material being discussed. Yet another reason to work in study groups is that a student is more likely to find out the best sources of information when he or she is networking with anumber of people.
